Classic Italian Meatball Appetizer with Beef and Pork

Easy Appetizer Recipe for Any Occasion

These easy Italian meatballs are savory, juicy, and just the right size for serving as an appetizer. I like to brown them on the stovetop to give them a flavorful outer crust and then finish them in the oven so they cook evenly all the way through.

Best of all, they’re easy to make with just a handful of simple ingredients. Serve them on a platter with toothpicks and a bowl of your favorite dipping sauce, and you have an appetizer that works for almost any occasion. I like to offer a couple of dips, such as this flavorful zesty dipping sauce or some homemade marinara so people can choose what they like.

Perfect Meatballs for Parties and Game Night

I made these Italian meatballs when some friends from church came to our house for game night and fellowship, and they were a huge hit. There’s just something about bite-size food that makes a casual gathering even more fun.

These meatballs are perfect for a special occasion, football party, holiday appetizer table, potluck, or any time you have friends and family over. You can set them out with toothpicks and let everyone help themselves.

Essential Italian Meatball Appetizer Ingredients

You can find these ingredients at most grocery stores. Here is what you’ll need:

  • Ground beef and pork blend
  • Eggs
  • Panko (pork panko or breadcrumb panko)
  • Italian seasoning
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Italian Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 350Ëš F.

Place the ground beef and pork blend in a medium mixing bowl. Add the eggs, panko, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

Mix it all together with a spoon or your hands until the ingredients are well combined. Try not to overwork the meat mixture because that can make the meatballs too firm.

Form the mixture into meatballs about the size of ping-pong balls. Keeping them close to the same size helps them cook evenly.

pouring cooking oil into skillet

Pour the olive oil into an oven-proof skillet and heat it over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot and sizzling, carefully add the meatballs.

Brown the meatballs for a couple of minutes on each side, turning them as needed. You’re not trying to cook them all the way through at this point. You just want that delicious browned exterior.

browning meatballs in skillet

Once the meatballs are browned, place the entire skillet in the preheated oven.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are completely cooked through. Ground beef and pork should reach a safe internal temperature of 165Ëš F.

Remove the meatballs from the skillet with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a serving bowl or platter.

Serving Your Meatball Appetizer

Add toothpicks to make these little meatballs easy for guests to grab. You can serve them plain or put out small bowls of marinara, garlic butter, or another favorite dipping sauce.

For a holiday appetizer table, sprinkle a little chopped parsley or grated Parmesan over the top for an extra special presentation.

These Italian meatballs are simple enough for a casual game night but tasty enough to serve when you’re celebrating something special. And based on how quickly they disappear when I serve them to friends, you might want to make a double batch.
