These frozen sweet potato fries in an air fryer make life easier by helping you get dinner on the table very quickly. And I have some good news and some bad news … good news first.
The good news is that you can easily make frozen sweet potato fries in your air fryer. They turn out crispy and totally delicious every single time. Plus they’re healthier than regular fries. That’s because sweet potatoes are loaded with all kinds of nutrients that are great for you.
Also, you’re air frying them rather than deep frying. That means less oil since the hot air that circulates around them does the work. Now for the bad news. These air fried frozen sweet potato fries are absolutely addictive. Yeah, once you start eating them, you’ll never want to stop.
This sweet potato fries recipe is so easy you won’t believe how delicious they turn out! They take less time than baking them in the oven or deep frying them. They’re perfect for a steak dinner, snacks for game days, or any family meal. That’s why I like to keep a bag of them in my freezer.
Air Fried Frozen Sweet Potatoes
Although you can cook fresh sweet potatoes in your air fryer, you’ll save a lot of time using frozen sweet potatoes. They’re still nutritious, and they’re a whole lot easier. You can add whatever seasonings you like without any trouble. I have a full recipe directly below as well as in a printable recipe card.
There are several types and brands of sweet potato fries. I like the standard cut, but I’ve also seen crinkle cut and sweet potato waffle fries in the freezer section of my grocery store. They’re usually near the frozen white potatoes. I highly recommend trying several different types. The best sweet potato fries are the ones you like the most.
Ingredients for Air Frying Frozen Sweet Potatoes
Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious side dish:
- Frozen sweet potato fries
- Cooking oil (avocado oil, olive oil, or whatever you have on hand)
- Salt to taste (I use Himalayan salt)
- Cinnamon (optional)
There are so many more seasonings you can add. If you enjoy hot and spicy, try a little cayenne pepper. Or if you enjoy extra sweet, sprinkle some sugar on them. You can also try a little garlic powder or onion powder. Experiment and try different spices. If you’re not sure you’ll like it, try sprinkling the spice on a small amount and taste it. This is a simple process that is all about trial and error.
These are super easy to make. In fact, if you’re trying to teach your children how to cook, this is a good thing to start with because they’ll get delicious results very quickly.
I put a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for your convenience. You can either scroll down or click on the jump-to-recipe button at the top of this page.
How to Make Frozen Sweet Potato Fries in an Air Fryer
Start by preheating your air fryer to 375 degrees F. Since you’ll add oil to the sweet potatoes, you don’t have to oil the air fryer basket. Pour the sweet potatoes into a medium sized bowl. Drizzle the cooking oil over the potatoes. Stir until they are well coated with oil. This makes them crispy and helps the other seasonings to stick to them.
You can use a little extra oil there isn’t enough to coat all of the pieces. For the best results, all of them need to be covered in a very light amount of oil. One of the great things about using an air fryer is that the excess oil will drip through the holes in the basket. You can wash it out of the pan after the fries are done. Sprinkle the salt over the fries. If you want to add cinnamon or any other spice, do it now.
After the air fryer reaches the desired temperature, place the sweet potato fries in the bottom of the air fryer basket. Arrange them in a single layer to enable the air to circulate around them for even cooking.
Cook the fries for 7 minutes. Remove the basket and give it a good shake to turn them over. Put the basket back into the air fryer and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Check to make sure they’re as crispy as you want them. If they’re not, you can return the basket for another minute or two.
Air fryer cook times vary from one machine to the next. The easiest way to know is to start with the stated times and add a minute or two at a time if needed. Serve these delicious sweet potato fries hot.
Dips for Sweet Potato Fries
These fries are delicious without anything on them. However, if you’re like my family, you’ll want dipping options.
Here are some of our favorite dips:
- Plain or vanilla yogurt
- Baja sauce
- Sour cream
- Honey mustard dressing
- Honey
- Ranch dressing
- Maple syrup
Try all of these, and discover your own favorite dipping sauce. There’s nothing better than crispy fries dipped into a bowl of great flavor.
Balance of Salty and Sweet
So there you have it—a simple way to make frozen sweet potato fries in your air fryer. They’re a healthy and tasty alternative to regular fries, and they’re perfect when you need to satisfy those salty or sweet cravings.
Be sure to give this super easy recipe a try next time you’re in the mood for something crispy and delicious. These crispy sweet potato fries deliver so much deliciousness you’ll want to make them often. They’re the perfect side dish and such a yummy treat for an afternoon snack.
Leftover Fries
These fries are so easy to make, I recommend air frying what you know you’ll eat now and save the rest for later. However, if you have leftovers, you can refrigerate them in a zip lock bag or other airtight container and heat them back up in the air fryer the next day. It only takes about a minute to make them crispy again.
