Melt-in-Your-Mouth Southern Comfort Food
If you need an easy but flavorful recipe for busy weeknights or lazy weekends, you’ll love this 3-ingredient Crock Pot butter beef recipe. This no-fuss dinner is the kind of recipe that fills your kitchen with mouthwatering aromas and brings the family running to the table.

This hearty-comforting dish tastes like you spent all day in the kitchen … but you didn’t. I don’t know about y’all, but I love slow cooker recipes that free up my time to go about my busy day.
I love the fact that this recipe is perfect for a keto diet. When I want to lose weight, I serve it alone. My husband always prefers it over mashed potatoes. Both of us enjoy it with a side of roasted mixed vegetables.

Ingredients
- Beef stew meat
- Butter
- Dry onion soup mix

Yup, that’s it! Just those 3 ingredients that come together in an amazing, magical way! The meat is tender and oh-so flavorful!
*Note: I wound up purchasing 2 packs of stew meat that were a little over a pound each. So it was almost 2-1/2 pounds, and it came out the same as using 2 pounds.
Directions
Start by greasing the bottom of your slow cooker just to keep things from sticking. This makes cleanup so much easier! Toss in two pounds of beef stew meat. It doesn’t need any seasoning just yet because the soup mix will handle that part.

Next, take a stick of butter and cut it into little pats, about a half inch thick, and put them right over the top of the beef. Then sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over everything.

Put the lid on your slow cooker and let it work its magic. You can cook it on low for 6 to 8 hours if you’ve got the time, or crank it up to high for 3 to 4 hours if you’re in a bit of a hurry.

Either way, you’ll end up with beef that’s tender enough to pull apart with a fork and coated in a savory, buttery sauce that’s downright irresistible. You’ll also love the aroma that fills the house as it cooks!

How to Serve
This butter beef is delicious spooned over fluffy mashed potatoes, buttery noodles, or a simple bed of white rice. Don’t forget a side of your favorite vegetable like green beans or a crisp salad … or creamy coleslaw to round things out. And if you’re lucky enough to have leftovers, they reheat like a dream—perfect for sandwiches or a quick lunch the next day.

Why We Love It
Besides the fact that it tastes like something Grandma might have made on a Sunday afternoon, this recipe’s a real lifesaver on busy days. No browning, no prep work, no complicated steps. Just simple, good ingredients coming together in the coziest way. It’s proof that you don’t need a long list of ingredients to put a little love on the table.

If you have trouble getting your kids to eat their vegetables, offer them some of this creamed spinach. This might surprise you, but most young’uns I know love it!
My husband and I are huge fans of these roasted tomatoes. They’re good in so many ways, from being a side dish or appetizer to topping pizza or any other Italian dish.

This does look and sound so delicious, but as I do not have a crockpot, I will have to try it my way. Visiting via Full Plate Thursday.

I made this recipe but it didn’t work out very well for me. I used 2.25 pounds of stew meat and a stick of butter plus the soup mix. I used my crockpot and cooked it at 4 hours on high. The meat was overdone and not tender enough. Also the gravy was floating in butter so I added a cornstarch slurry which helped a bit.
Hi Jann. I’m so sorry it didn’t work for you. If you decide to give it another try, perhaps cooking it longer on low would help. I’ve never had to make a slurry for this recipe.
