Have you ever had strawberry dump cake? Whether you’re an experienced cook or brand new to the culinary world, you’ll love the simplicity of this strawberry dump cake recipe.
The flavor of strawberries combined with the deliciousness of cake delivers some great flavor that you can enjoy without spending a lot of time in the kitchen. Serve it for dessert, have it for an afternoon snack, or enjoy it at a party!
I’ve also heard this called a strawberry cobbler. Regardless of what you call it, you’ll love the fact that this is one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make.
Convenience of Combining Canned Pie Filling and Cake Mix
Typically, a dump cake uses convenience foods to simplify the recipe. And this is no exception. I like to keep a list of dump cake recipes with ingredients for times when I need a dessert in a hurry.
This is also the perfect dessert to take to a potluck. Other people will be impressed, yet it’s such an easy dessert recipe that requires very little effort.
Ingredients
You only need a few ingredients to make this wonderful dessert. Here is what you’ll need:
- Cans of strawberry pie filling
- Box of yellow or white cake mix
- Stick of butter
- Sliced almonds
You can also use this delicious strawberry topping in place of the pie filling. It’s delicious and extremely easy to make. The only thing you’ll need to do differently is add more fresh strawberries as you make it.

How to Make Strawberry Dump Cake
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the bottom and sides of a 9” x 13” baking pan or casserole dish with either butter or cooking spray. Scoop or pour the strawberry pie filling into the baking dish and spread it out evenly.
Next, sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top of the strawberry pie filling. You can use a knife, spatula, or spoon to gently spread it out evenly.
Now sprinkle the almond slices over the top of the cake mix. If you really love almonds, you can always add more.
Slice the butter into very thin pats.
Place them evenly over the top of the cake mix and almonds. I used to use melted butter, but this process with pats of cold butter is much easier. They melt evenly over the top of the dessert and give it the crunchy texture that you’ll love.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until the pie filling is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Serve with your favorite topping. We like either whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Extra Tips to Make a Successful Strawberry Dump Cake
The process of making this dessert is super easy. Follow these tips for the best results:
- Add a few slices of fresh berries to add more texture and flavor.
- Make sure you grease the pan well so the filling doesn’t stick.
- Spread all of the ingredients evenly for consistent doneness.
- Add other nuts if you don’t have almonds. We also like pecans or walnuts.
- Use the entire box of cake mix.
- Follow the cooking time and keep a close eye on it to prevent it from burning.
- Don’t serve it as soon as it comes out of the oven. Let it rest according to the directions.
- Top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or your favorite whipped topping (whipped cream or Cool Whip).
Questions About Strawberry Dump Cake
This is such an easy dessert that you probably don’t have many questions. However, here are a few things I want to add:
What Should You Do with Leftover Dump Cake?
Either cover it in plastic wrap or aluminum foil … or put it in an airtight container and refrigerate it. This should be good for up to a week.
How Long Will Strawberry Dump Cake Last at Room Temperature?
It should be good for a day or two. After that, it needs to be refrigerated.
Can You Make This with Gluten-Free Cake Mix?
Yes, you absolutely can. In fact, if you look at the photos in this post, you’ll see that I use gluten-free cake mix.
Can You Use a Different Flavor of Cake Mix?
I prefer using a box of yellow cake mix or a box of white cake mix. However, chocolate is good too.
