A great way to eat these waffle fries is with a side of ketchup. The criss cross pattern of each of each of these waffle cut fries holds onto whatever you dip it into or pour over it.

The golden color of these crisp French fries adds to their appeal. So they’re perfect for serving friends and family for any occasion.

Air Fryer Recipes

An air fryer is basically a convection oven that circulates hot air to cook the food evenly and make the outside of the food extra crispy. I cook a lot of things besides these air fryer frozen waffle fries.

I love having an air fryer because it’s so easy to pull something out of the freezer and cook it just right—all without drowning the food in vegetable oil or other fat. You can add extra flavor with your favorite seasonings and sauces.

Here are some of our favorite foods cooked in our air fryer:

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeños – Every single bite is like a party in the mouth. You can dip it or eat it as-is for a whole lot of deliciousness.

Air Fryer Carrots – Cooking baby carrots in an air fryer brings out the sweetness that I can’t get enough of.

Ranch Air Fryer Chickpeas – Here’s a crunchy snack that’s perfect to munch on while watching your favorite TV show or enjoying family game night.

Bacon Wrapped Chicken Tenders – Enjoy these as the main dish of a meal or as an appetizer. They’re a favorite treat around our house.

Frozen Waffle Fries Ingredients

You can purchase any brand of frozen waffle fries and come out with some of the most delicious crispy fries you’ve ever tasted.

You might have already noticed that I’m a fan of generic and store brand products. That’s because I like to save money. For example, an entire bag of waffle fries costs less than a single order of prepared fries at most fast food restaurants.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to get the best results:

  • Frozen waffle fries (any brand)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil (in a spritzer bottle)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For exact measurements of each ingredient and full directions, go to the recipe card at the bottom of the page. You can even print out the card by using the “print” button.

You can actually get some great results with any type of French fries. In fact, I’ve used crinkle cut fries, shoestring fries, steak fries, regular fries, potato wedges, and even sweet potato fries.

How to Make Frozen Waffle Fries in an Air Fryer

I like to spray the air fryer basket with oil before I begin. That not only keeps the food from sticking, but it also gives you some extra crispy waffle fries.

Next, pour a half bag of waffle fries into the basket. Spread them out in a single layer for the most even cooking.

It’s okay if they overlap a little bit because you’ll be flipping them over halfway through the process.

I like to spritz a little more olive oil spray on top of the fries before cooking them to create even crispier fries.

Now air fry the waffles on 400 degrees F for 5 minutes and then flip them over. This cooking method enables the fries to get crispy on both sides.

Put the basket back in the air fryer and cook an additional 5 minutes. Remove the basket and check doneness. This is when I take the opportunity to taste test one.

Chances are, it’s perfect at this point. However, cooking time can vary, according to the model of air fryer you have. If it’s not quite crisp enough, cook them another minute or two.

Add salt and pepper if you like. However, there are various brands that are already seasoned, so check for that before adding your own.

Depending on how many people you’re serving, you can vary the amount of fries. For more than a couple of people, you’ll need a full bag of waffle fries. All you have to do is repeat all of the steps.

Add Your Own Toppings

Although these waffle fries are delicious with just a little salt, pepper, and a side of ketchup, there are so many other ways to enjoy them. You can sprinkle them with garlic powder, onion powder, or any other seasoning you like.

I enjoy eating them the same way I’d eat a loaded baked potato—with cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits.

Another way I like them is with cheese, salsa, and jalapeño peppers.

That’s a great side dish for any Tex Mex meal. Add a spoonful of sour cream to balance the heat.

Don’t be afraid to test different sauces too. Pull your favorite sauce out of the fridge or pantry and dip one of the waffle fries. My husband likes his dipped in mustard. The best way to eat them is however you like them.

Can You Cook Waffle Fries in the Oven?

Yes, they are delicious baked in the oven. Place them in a single layer on top of a baking sheet and prepare them the same way you would in an air fryer.

Bake them for 10 minutes on 400 degrees F. Remove them from the oven, flip them over, and bake for 5 more minutes. Taste them to make sure they’re done to your liking.

What to Serve with Waffle Fries

We enjoy having waffle fries with a variety of dishes, including chicken, pork, beef, and seafood. Here are some of our favorite main dishes to serve them with:

Oven-Fried Chicken Strips – These crispy tenders are the perfect complement with any potato dish.

Chicken Salad Sandwich – My homemade chicken salad is easy to make and satisfies even the heartiest appetite.

Classic Meatloaf Without Breadcrumbs – Enjoy a serving of waffle fries with this delicious meatloaf made by Julie from Back to My Southern Roots.

Chili Con Carne – Serve waffle fries with chili con carne. Go ahead and give in to the temptation to dip your fries in the yummy chili. It’s absolutely delicious!
