What to Serve with Fettuccine Alfredo

29 Salads, Side Dishes, and Desserts

If you’re looking for something to serve with fettuccine Alfredo, remember it’s all about food that shows off the main dish. I like to add a protein to the fettuccine noodles and creamy Alfredo sauce. Then add an easy side dish … or two or three to make it a complete meal.

When choosing foods to serve with pasta dishes, it’s good to provide balance. For example, the crunchy textures of fresh vegetables in a salad pair well with the delicious creamy sauce.

Most people also enjoy a flavorful garlic bread or crusty Italian bread on the side. If you follow a gluten-free diet like I do, there are some delicious options that you’ll see below.

Dessert is always welcome after any meal at our dinner table. We like a variety of cakes, pies, puddings, ice creams, and other sweet treats to finish off any meal. I’ve added a few of those as well.

Fettuccine Alfredo Add-Ons

Sometimes I make a basic Alfredo sauce, but we prefer something added to it. One of my favorite meals is a creamy chicken Alfredo, while my husband prefers shrimp or crabmeat. But he likes my homemade chicken fettuccine Alfredo too.

I have to admit that when I see jar Alfredo sauce on sale, I’ll pick up a couple of jars and doctor them up to make them taste homemade. Some grocery stores put them in their BOGO sales quite frequently.

Most of the time, I like for the main course to have some protein for the health benefits.

You can add whatever protein you like. Some of the ones we’ve had are chicken breast, chicken thighs, ground beef, Italian sausage, shredded pork, delicious meatballs, or even tofu.

I’ve also added a variety of fresh vegetables that include sliced bell peppers, sautéed mushrooms, sliced black olives, sautéed zucchini, and whatever else I can find in my vegetable crisper.

Add a splash of white wine to the sauce and then save the rest to enjoy with the meal. This turns a good recipe into a great recipe with very little effort.

Don’t be afraid to try something new. If you’re unsure, try the add-on with a small amount of the sauce before putting it in the rest. You can add lots of flavor to a classic Alfredo sauce by merely adding just a few items.

If you want something different, check out the menu of your favorite Italian restaurant for inspiration. You’ll discover a lot of delicious things that make this Italian pasta dish even better. Then do what they do.

Whether you use homemade, store-bought, or fresh pasta from the deli, you can make a wonderful dish the entire family will love.
